Oklahoma State Report Card

The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) provides a snapshot of how Oklahoma students' performance compares to students across the nation. Oklahoma’s long-term goal is to score among the highest performing states on NAEP in all subjects for both fourth and eighth grade. More information about NAEP can be found at sde.ok.gov/national-assessment-educational-progress.

NAEP Performance

Why do we measure this?

The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) provides a common metric for all states that allows us to monitor educational progress across the nation and compare our students' performance with other states and regions. NAEP also provides states with a benchmark to target important efforts that raise the bar for student achievement and ensure that students have equal opportunities to succeed.

What was measured?

NAEP achievement levels are performance standards that describe what students should know and be able to do. Results are reported in two ways, by average scale scores and as percentages of students performing at each NAEP Achievement level. Data displayed here show the percentage of students that scored at or above proficient. It should be noted that the NAEP Proficient achievement level does not represent grade level proficiency as determined by state tests.

View the distribution graph at the bottom to compare the percentage of Oklahoma students scoring at or above NAEP proficient with other states across the nation.

NAEP Participation

Why do we measure this?

It is important for NAEP to assess as many students selected to participate as possible. Assessing representative samples of students, including students with disabilities (SD) and English language learners (ELL), helps to ensure that NAEP results accurately reflect the educational performance of all students in the target population, and can continue to serve as a meaningful measure of U.S. students' academic achievement over time.

What was measured?

NAEP reports participation rates for English Learners and Students with Disabilities. Participation rates relate the percent of students identified in the target population that took a NAEP assessment.
